This car was in beautiful condition and was a joy to paint because of the amount of chrome and polished surfaces on it.

Summer Outing

During the summer of 1999 an old friend asked me if I would paint his Austin 10. I opted to paint a summer picnic scene which allowed me to set the car under trees to create interesting reflections of sky and foliage on the polished surfaces of the car. I also got to enjoy some memorable jaunts that summer in this beautiful old car.

Mansell’s Indicar Debut

A close friend challenged me to paint this based on an old magazine article photo he had. It shows Mansell’s win on his debut Indycar race in Surfer’s Paradise in 1993 driving for the Newman/Haas team.

As a rule, I do not like to work directly from one photograph like this, and certainly not from photos I didn’t take myself, but since it wasn’t being painted for commercial gain, I thought I’d make an exception for a friend. It was a good excercise in photo-realist painting but I feel that the end result lacks ‘movement’ because I was too faithful to the original photo. (Private collection, Ireland.)

The Mk II Escort was always a favourite among rally drivers and fans.
